First Look: Frisky Feline Enjoys Space-Faring In 'Strayed' Comic From Dark Horse
Forget Cosmo and Krypto—it's time for yarn-loving felines to take their rightful spot in the pantheon of space-traveling pets in the world of comics. That's where Dark Horse enters the picture with Strayed, a book "about an astral traveling cat that involves family-owner relationships, space travel, colonization," according to the official solicit information.
Carlos Giffoni (Space Riders: Vortex of Darkness) is writing the upcoming series with Juan Doe (Fantastic Four: Island of Death) handling the artwork for the cover and interiors. With that said, Dark Horse is also releasing a special bundle of the debut issue, which includes an exclusive 11x14 variant cover drawn by Black Bolt and New Avengers alum, Christian Ward in fine art giclée print form. That limited edition variant (only 250 exist!)—a stellar mix of cat and cosmos—can be glimpsed above.
Here's the general synopsis for the book, too:
In the far future, a military-industrial complex reigns over all humanity and actively destroys distant alien worlds. The galaxy's only hope can be found through an unlikely pair: an astral-projecting cat named Lou and his loving owner Kiara. Trading nine lives for the well-being of billions, their revolt is a battle for love, friendship, compassion, and the soul of humanity.
"I have been working hard on making Strayed a reality for over two years now," Giffoni said in a statement. "It combines my love for science fiction, space exploration, and the best pets in this world—cats. Comic books are the best medium for telling visual stories and, with artists that I genuinely admire contributing fantastic art for this story, I am excited to finally get it out there in front of readers."
